Little League Minor

With no finals and three games left we are trying to treat each game like a final. With the final game against top placed Glenelg we couldn’t ask for a better build up!
Jordan again showed that he is consistently throwing strikes Ethan knocking the ball down and making the out at first from shortstop, Jordan then walked one only to strike out the next two to hold them out to nil.
This was followed up with the bat Kyle scored Ethan with a hard hit triple and Nathan Valentini hit to left field picking up a nice RBI finish the innings for 5.
Patrick’s pitching bounced back after few difficult weeks holding them to a single run.,
Jordan picked up an RBI hit to score the only run in the second dig.
Ethan wanted the ball and he got it and even though he struggled, Ethan showed he will be a handy option in games to come.
We were then blown away from a hard throwing Indian with bundles of talent leaving the game tied with an inning to play.
The ball was given Jacob Scott who throws consistent strikes making a play to Luke at first with the lead off batter and taking a pop up to get another.
Luke then fielded and played his base to close the innings but not before three runs were scored.
Three to tie and four to win we had the top of the line up to work with. Kyle and Jordan both picked up their second hit with singles to centre.
Ethan come up wit a hit picking up two RBI’s and tying the game and becoming the go ahead run. Jacob then put the ball in play putting Ethan in scoring position.
Nathan Valentini hit into a double play but not before the aggressive running Ethan run from second to score. A great double play by the Indians but the score winning the game in exciting fashion.
Great work by all.

A game against second placed Sturt was always going to be a test but the boys stood up to the challenge with no fear.
Jordan Warman leading the challenge in testing circumstances, walking the first two batters with both moving to second and third. Jordan then dug himself out, striking out the next three with out a score. Awesome job!
The boys followed up with the bats scoring five runs Jordan again picking up 2 RBI’s with a stand up double, Nathan Valentini forcing an error in the field and Luke Houston with a single RBI to finish the innings.
Jacob Scott stood up on the mound and demanded the opposition to swing the bat and earned a strike out with his first batter and apart from a hit to centre his good mate Nathan Collins at third picked up a couple of ground balls and gunned them out at first to finish the dig with class. great job by both.
A young tough pitcher stood up against us striking the first two out, but not for Kyle Nicol forcing an error with his speed to get on base and stealing to second. Followed by another stand up double by Jordan to score another run.
Patrick McKone came in and struggled but never gave up and it’s efforts like these that will make him stronger and stronger.
He came out For Darragh Kearns who proved just how much he wants to play baseball getting on base with his only at bat.
A nice hit to Mario Casazza and a great double to Nathan Valentini and another hit to Kyle Nicol scored some more very valuable runs to be up 10-5.
I showed BIG Nath (Big as in big hearted) the ball and there was no one else was going to pitch. Nath struggled but never gave in managing a strike out. With three runs scored it was time for a change. Josh Lee walked onto the mound with bases loaded and one out (no pressure) he walked the first batter scoring another run but that was the last Josh struck out the next two batters holding a 10 – 9 victory.
Alex Morgan is starting to swing the bat nicely and it won’t be long before he starts making some green marks on the score book.
Kyle was solid behind the plate and shared the duties with Luke who also showed some handy glove work and once again, the work of Darren Warman, Andrew Scott and Andrew Morgan have created a good team atmosphere add one Dave Nicol and it is a very handy team.

After a forfeit and a loss to the top team which could have easily gone our way the boys are still battling on.
Brodie has been a solid pitcher averaging around 15 to 20 pitches an innings.
Jordan has been struggling to find his confidence on the mound and proven with some hard work during the week can make a huge difference.
More work from this guy and he’ll setting himself up for some enjoyable baseball now and next year.
Patrick also followed up with an excellent effort on the mound he is really enjoying his baseball and it’s showing with his consistent improvement.
Making his pitching debut was Ethan and it won’t certainly be his last a great effort especially when thrown in the deep end.
Kyle enjoyed his chance with gear on behind the plate. It has given him a break from pitching and proven his versatility.
There were many hits the best coming from Jordan and Kyle though if we put the ball in play the way the whole team did we are going enjoy our remaining games that’s for sure.
Darragh, Jacob, Alex, Josh, Luke and Nathan are all putting in at training and not far off making their mark on the diamond.
Also thanks to the two Andrews Scott and Morgan for giving me great assistance and giving the boys encouragement and confidence with sound advise.,
In the end a win 11 – 6 against the Hawks but more importantly more steps in the right direction.

With the end of the year nearing another inductee enters the team.
Welcome aboard Alex Morgan and what a way to finish 2009 with 10 hits in 3 innings.
4 singles from Nathan Valentini, Josh Lee, Kyle Nicol and Nathan Collins.
3 doubles by Brodie Nicol, a triple from Jordan Warman and 2 run in the park home runs by Kyle Nicol.
This was assisted by Kyle’s lightening speed around the bases.
Oscar Mitton worked hard behind the plate again and Brodie pitched another solid innings.
Kyle and Jordan did what they had to but a little more belief in what they can do and the results will come in.
Luke Houston, Jacob Scott and Ethan D’Angelo were both very busy backing up in the pivot positions and ran the bases well.
15 – 4 was a good result and hopefully we can keep the momentum going when we return and give some teams some serious grief.
Special thanks to Andrew Scott for his help.

Well unfortunately we have endured another loss and the boys are finding out that Baseball is a thinking man’s game.
This is nothing we can’t cure by a little hard work and some fun on the training track.
Highlights, Ethan D’Angelo showed us he can be a classy infielder with a nice ground out. He also caught well.
Kyle and Brodie Nicol contested each other in pitching.
Kyle is also swinging the bat well and finding contact and not far off a good hit.
Brodie performed well doing his innings in 18 pitches and Kyle just pipped him with 17.
Josh Lee also pitched well with his first full innings and with that sort of performance there will be plenty more to come.
Jacob Scott also pitched a great innings and had the field grasped a few more outs he would have had a very short innings. An awesome job by the big guy!!!
Nathan Valentini was quite but last week took a nice catch and has been swinging the bat.
Jordan Warman is still putting in and he isn’t far off some good results keep putting in at training and it will happen.
Luke Housten also put in an effort behind the plate and when he understands more about the game of baseball he will be quite handy.
We are 4 and 4 and hopefully we can find some confidence and form to finish the year on a good note because the talent is there!

Congratulations to Brodie Nicol for being promoted to the Major side he has worked hard and deserves his shot.
On the road a second week running and both being at Southern Districts has been a tough ask, but not too tall a challenge for the boys pulling off another win.
Perhaps not one of our better games there were still plenty of highlights.
Starting with a surprise placement behind the plate Ethan D’Angelo stepped up and got the job done. Nathan Collins fielded good hit down the line with a sharp backhander at third.
Kyle Nicol struggled a little on the mound but his natural talent and mechanics will see him pitching some fine innings to come but he is finding the ball on the bat and some handy hitting has seen him bat runs in.
Ball magnet Jacob Scott pulled off a nice catch at 2nd and throw to first for a nice double play, It was almost his second after making good ground to a difficult fly ball at left field and only just falling out of the glove and his batting has been great.
David Dell had a quiet day and did not receive the right pitches though he rounded the bases well .
Luke Housten finally got his chance to pitch and got the job done taking a great catch to finish the innings.
Oscar finished the game behind the plate and another great job and finishing with a deep hit to centre field.
New pitching sensation Josh Lee showed he had something to offer and he will be surely used again in the game to come.
Jordan Warman displayed a glimpse of what he can do and what an awesome job he also come to the plate and smashed a 3 run triple.
I would like to thank Madison Scott for making up the nine at the start of play and showed no fear to come out and play the game.
16 to 10 up and we go away against Sturt for a good challenge come boys lets keep this ball rolling.

Firstly thanks to Bob Baker for his pitching training as the improvements a clearly showing. Thanks to Tony for the difficult job of Scoring and a big thanks to Dave Nicol for his assistance and input and wish him a safe trip away with work.
Round 6 and still an induction of new players welcome aboard Nathan Valentini and Jacob Scott.
After last weeks heat wave which cancelled round 5 we travelled south to the home of the Hawks.
Brodie again started off strongly and laid the foundations and with these sorts of performances is asking for a promotion.
Jordan and Kyle also made it look simple after slightly sluggish starts and both made good contributions with the bat Kyle with a crisp hit down the middle.
Unfortunately Luke and Patrick missed an opportunity to have their time at the plate with a surprise time and game called. Luke looks set for a pitch this week and Patrick goes on holiday and we look forward to his return after crushing the ball today with the bat.
Perhaps not one Oscar’s better games behind the plate but still an outstanding effort and unlucky not to get a call on a tag at home. He also put bat on ball and pushed the field with his speed around the bases.
David Dell, Nathan Valentini, Ethan D’angelo and Josh Lee also all put the ball in the field and good base running keep the pressure on the Hawks all day.
Jacob Scott walked at his first at bat though not before swinging at head high 3 and 0 pitch got to like a guy that wants to hit though where did this come from???
2nd at bat was a nice clean hit which earned him an RBI nice work.
Not sure what the score ended up but it was lots to not so much. On a whole a nice game by all, though I can see what these boys can do and our best is still to come !!

With the late but very welcome inclusion of two new players David Dell and Kobe Hensgen the team is starting to look good and competitive amongst each other but still keeping a respectful team morale.
Brodie led the charge once again only handicapped by the plaster cast on his own ankle and Jordan backed up with an equally strong effort.
Needing possibly 5 pitchers per game 2nd gamer Nathan Collins put his brave hand up for the ball. Successful or not it was an effort well done and will be priceless experience for his next challenge on the mound.
Luke Houston was quiet but an RBI was enough to keep him smiling; Josh Lee showed just how much it means to get it right and Ethan D’angelo is realising the need to be focused.
Patrick Mckone had an excellent confidence boosting effort holding to nil on the mound and Kyal Nicol blew them away and probably himself included in the last to a wisening Oscar Mitton behind the plate finding out you don’t need to call a third strike in the zone to get a strike out.
We showed a little with the bat, though now with 8 first year players, the moment in the batting box is causing a little stage fright situation and if the boys hit the way they hit when I throw to them they will be doing more than just scaring me, lucky I have a net to hide behind.
The 8 – 6 win was closer than it should have been but again another good step in the right direction.

Our under 12 minor side has 6 new first year players and, on behalf of the club I would like to welcome Luke Houston, Ethan D’angelo, Josh Lee, Jordan Warman, Oscar Mitton and Nathan Collins. They are all great and special characters that are showing their abilities and potentials to become very handy baseballers.
