The West Torrens Baseball Club closed the book on its 2011/12 season with a gala dinner at Major Sponsor the Lockleys Hotel on Friday Night April 27, 2012.

Among the many duties concluded on the evening, the Harry Hunt medal count was held, Awards in each Division were handed out and Life Memberships were bestowed.

The Senior Club presentations were as follows:

Senior Presentations

Presentation night for all senior teams is on Friday 27 April at the Lockleys Hotel at 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. Cost is $32 per person with a set menu, players have $20 offset through their registration fees, so have a residual charge of $12 for the night. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the season and to support our major sponsors.

Annual General Meeting

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the West Torrens Baseball Club will be held on Wednesday 23rd May, 2012 at the West Torrens Baseball Club Rooms, Netley Avenue, Lockleys commencing at 7pm. Under the terms of the constitution, all positions will be declared vacant and elections held to install a Committee for the 2012/13 season.

It is with sadness that West Torrens Baseball Club marks the passing of former player Darren Garrick at the age of 51 years in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Darren was the first appointed SASI Coach, he pitched for the inaugural Adelaide Giants Team.

He was a four time premiership team player for West Torrens in 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94, 1994-95.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne, and sons Nicholas and Angelo.

Our thoughts are with his family – WTBC Management and members.

Gala night closes season in style

The West Torrens Baseball Club celebrations continued in earnest on Friday evening 23 March when Premiership medallions were handed out to members of the four winning teams. In addition to this, trophies awarding special performance over the season were announced. Welcoming the Tee Ball All Stars to the club, each player was presented a memento recognising their participation in this year’s event. The Little League Major and Minor teams were recognised as well, and we look ahead with optimism as yet another crop of exciting youngsters emerge to follow in the path of previous generations.

Congratulations Jonty Scharenberg

West Torrens Under 14 Jonty Scharenberg emerged from the SABL Junior Medal Night as a significant winner, having won the Under 14/1 South MVP award as the best player in the League for 2011/12. Jonty was also awarded MVP of the SA Bite Under 14 team that played in Perth at the National Carnival in January. On top of this he was awarded MVP of the Little League National Champion Adelaide Southern All Stars, that went to Guam to represent Australia in August 2011.
Congratulations and our compliments to all other placegetters who featured in Friday night’s presentations, including Nathan Van der linden and Bryce Fulton from the Under 18′s, Jack Hambly from the Under 16′s, Tyson Beelitz from The Under 14/1′s, Curtis Mead from the Under 14/2′s and Darcy Barry and Oscar Weber from the Little League Minor South team.

Day of Unprecedented Success!!

In an extraordinary conclusion to the season, the four Junior Teams that had made it through to Grand Final Day, all came away with the ultimate prize. In a testimony to the outstanding coaching and playing talent at the club, the Under 14/2′s lead by Hall of Famer Andrew Scott, the Under 14/1′s lead by current Head Coach of the Little League National Champions Burke Weber, the Under 16′s lead by club stalwart Robbie Dineen and first year coach Jarrod Marsland, and the Under 18′s lead by former A Grade players Dave Dunstall and Peter Hoare, were all successful in winning the Premiership in their respective grades.
