Wild Weather farewell to November!!

by Simo on December 1st, 2009

After the most bizarre month of weather that ranged from searing 40 degree temperatures and heat outs to squalling winds and torrential downpours, the month of November was fare welled with some wash outs in the Senior grades on Saturday and some drizzling rain and cold conditions on Sunday. Through it all the Eagles continued to soar with the junior teams racking up another clean sweep.

The Under 18’s featured in a top of the table clash with the Tigers at the Nest. With tyro Dylan Chuck starting on the mound, the Tiger’s roar was soon muted as the Eagles swooped for an 11 – 1 result that saw them storm back to the top of the ladder. The Under 16’s were out at Golden Grove for what seemed like the hundredth time this season, and were greeted with a full game effort from the opposing starter whose seven inning effort was not quite enough to shut down the aggressive Eagle bats. Excellent work on the mound from Bryce Fulton and Dylan Duval in relief was enough to hold off the Dodger rally for a 7 – 4 win and maintain their position atop the Under 16 perch. The Under 14 Green Machine started rustily against the Sox at Payneham, coughing up some red pencil marks early in the piece, but after settling, gradually took over at the plate with a power rally in the fifth putting any thought of a revival to rest. Ladder position – Uno! Final score Green Machine 14 – Sox 3. The Under 14 Dineen Machine also continued their renaissance with a stirring 11 – 7 result over the Saints. The Little League Mega Stars Under Tim and Jamie continue to wreak havoc storming home in a come from behind 11 – 9 victory that came at the top of the final frame. Stirring stuff. Ronnie’s pups rounded out the tale with an 8 man, 1 woman demolition of the Hawks at Falcon Park. Thanks to Madison Scott who filled the 9 spot with distinction until the arrival of the cavalry a little later than we expected. All up, a continuing bevy of outstanding performances. Well done to all players, I certainly hope you’re enjoying your baseball.

One thing that nearly slipped under the radar was the Division 1 debut of 15-year-old Nathan Vanderlinden against Glenelg. Whispers around the nest are that even the great Andrew Scott was 16 when he had his first swing at that level, Burke Weber too. Although it was definitely tougher to make it through in those days, wasn’t it guys? So congratulations Nathan on posting that milestone.
