Tee Ball All-Stars
On an invitation from the tournament organisers, Club Legend Andrew Scott in cohouts with the Grande Boulangere, Robert Baker committed to establishing a Tee ball squad to play at Southern Districts last Sunday afternoon. Following is Scotty’s summary of the occasion:
The West Torrens Baseball Club T-Ball All-stars hit the diamond for a round robin tournament on the weekend to play teams from Kensington, Sturt and Souths.
To play 3 games against teams that had been training together for quite some time compared to our 1 session, you could say that it was going to be tough.
We put together a team comprising youngsters from our local schools. Some have never played before and some have played a hand full of school games.
Game 1 saw us a bit rusty and still getting to know each other’s names and not quite sure about knowing exactly where each position was on the field. So to do enough to score 5 runs with the bat was a great effort, and to see the improvement throughout the 3 games until our last time to bat in game 3 when we scored 7 runs in the inning(max per inning) for the first time it was like a victory to the team.
Congratulations to Thanasis Doupolis (aka Mr T) who was our MVP for the first round. Also to Declan McGeagh roaming 2nd base just like Uncle Woz used to do, and Jacob Scott who attempted a catch in left field that knocked his glove clean off his hand but turned a HR into a ground rule double.
Our next round is in 2 weeks time at West Torrens so come out a take a look at some future stars.
