Eagles soaring in late October

by admin on October 30th, 2009

Once again, West Torrens Baseball Club burst out of the blocks this weekend with a clean sweep of the Saturday games in the seniors with good wins against Sturt in the 3’s, 4’s and 5’s and a shellacking of the Hawks in Div 6. On Sunday with the Juniors and the A and B Grade, we went close to a clean sweep with just the A’s and Little League Minor boys falling again to narrow losses whilst all other Junior teams and the Div 2’s recorded great wins. The standout game for me was the Under 16 Pitching duel against East Torrens that saw four state team pitchers going head to head in a ding dong battle that eked out a mere three runs for the day, all scored in the first dig, 1 to the Sox and 2 to the Eagles. An amazing performance from all four pitchers, but congratulations in particular to Bryce Fulton who pulled out the win, and Dylan Duval, who recorded the save. Both lads finding the edges, of the zone, good command of the breaking pitches and some serious heat on the fastballs. It was a privilege to watch.

Commendation to the sleepy bats in the Under 18’s who finally broke a stalemate late in the game with a 7 run inning that finally shut down a gallant Dodger team. The Under 14 Juggernaut is staring to gather some momentum with David Green’s team enjoying a rare chance to put a larger than usual gap between Sturt and ourselves. Well done to Rob Dineen and his Under 14 team that recorded their first win against the Rams, the boys obviously enjoyed having their coach back this week. Tim Mead and Jamie Boyden’s Little League Major boys recorded consecutive wins, this time against the Tribe and Ron Paulus’ Little League Minor team continue to perform well with many of this team brand new to baseball and just itching to have some fun and learn how to play.
