Bawden Bashes the Tribe

by Simo on October 20th, 2009

After a solid but reasonably uneventful start last week against a “Handy” Northern Districts side, Goodwood loomed as the next set of challenges for this team. With some positional, and more importantly pitching changes, another unknown quantity lay ahead. Well they do say “beware the sleeping Giant”. With James Spencer posting his first pitching outing for the season, we were all jolted back to reality after a vigorous warm up by allowing one run to the bad guys in the first dig. No propblemo I thought until Dylan Duval scorched a line drive down to third base, but managed to hit the fielders’ glove flush for an out, and Mitchell Harvey pasting a line drive through the middle, only to find that as it wascaught all he achievemed was a non recordable stat of a change of the pitchers undergarments. This was potentially one of those days where the best team was looming as playing without luck.

Spence settled down and took control with plenty of assistance from a strong Infield/Outfield, and the hitters showed that luck would not play a part as they systematically carved up the opposition pitching. Runs aplenty saw Spence throw a solid third and complete his pitch coach imposed quota for the day, and enter Ntahn Vanderlinden, who was never troubled. Dylan Chuck followed with a hose down for the last dig and we came away with an emphatic victory that did not look likely after the first dig.

Congrats to all as it was a true team effort, but I need to single out some stellar hitting performances from Sam Bawden (too many to count and all extra bases), and Mitchell Harvey who is starting to display the dominant hitting prowess that we have believed he has had for years now. Look out Golden Grove, ‘cause in the words of a famous AFL team “they know we are coming!”
