From the Coach
Another season is upon us already and with it brings a new set of challenges and opportunities for the Senior Squad. There is a feel around of a ‘changing of the guard’ somewhat and I’m looking for certain players to take on a more senior role both on and off the field within our squad this year.
It’s an exciting time for those who have waited for opportunities at the Div 1 and 2 level, as there are many positions up for grabs. To the players I say grab your opportunities with both hands and show the coaches, players and supporters why you belong in the Senior Squad. We want our players to be assertive, aggressive and confident in their ability.
As always our pitching stocks look strong. We must back our arms in the field by making every possible out. This is an area in which we must improve this year to be successful. Our hitting lineup will also take on a different look with a couple of notable omissions. In this respect we have to be smart at the plate and execute at every opportunity.
To assist us in our push for another Premiership, we have recruited an import named Chris Falls who arrives in Adelaide October 1. Chris is a 26 yo Canadian infielder/utility who is coming off a very successful season for the Mannheim Tornados in Germany where he hit .341/.422/.429 with 22 RBI and 26 runs in 23 games. Chris holds a dual British/Canadian citizenship and is currently playing for Great Britain in the 2009 World Cup. He is currently hitting .400 in the tournament having played against the calibre of Japan and Nicaragua. Please introduce yourself to Chris when he arrives and make him feel welcome. I’m sure he will fit in well at WTBC.
We have 3 trial games lined up before the season starts, the first against Kensington at Kensington at 11am this Sunday. Get down and support the boys if you can.
Let’s push to make the final weekend in March once more and remind everyone why we are the most successful club in SA Baseball.
Cheers, Tibbo.
